That’s ok. Just let it rain. I’m picturing God wringing out the clouds to get them nice and dry for Blues Fest coming up June 12-14, right here on our beautiful Chicago lakefront. Don’t let these bleak rainy days can get you down, but go on ahead and get the blues.
A quick check of the Chicago Blues Beat Calendar assures me that there is the usual lineup of great live blues around town this weekend. I hope you were one of the fortunate fans that are going on the Chicago Blues Bus Tour Saturday evening. Check back Saturday and I will tell you more about it so that you will not miss the next one. This is a must for serious blues fans.
Perhaps check out some blues you haven’t heard in a while. Did you know Gloria Shannon is playing at Amphora? The red-hot Carl Davis Band will be at Smoke Daddy’s. I always enjoy the Jimmy Burns Band and if I was not confined to quarters presently, I would be at Harlem Avenue Lounge Saturday night to hear them. That is if I was not able to get tickets for the bus tour. That is to say if I wasn’t confined. Touring through Chicago also is Tab Benoit who is making a stop at Fitzgerald’s Saturday. The great new Cool River is having none other than Billy Branch and his Sons of Blues on stage. Too rich? Too skinny? Too much live blues? I don’t think so.
Now I am reminded to thank all of the blues people who noticed I have not been about town. It is frustrating to have such a vibrant live blues scene in Chicago and not be able to enjoy it in person. I also miss the blues people very much. I sincerely appreciate all of the kind messages. I anticipate being able to get out sometime this year, but in the meantime I have developed ideas for two books. One is a book about Cook County and the other is book about cooking. Now all I have to do is write them. There are many details that need to be worked out in such a project. For example, in the book on the County of Cook, I need to change the names of the innocent to protect them. In the rough drafts however, there seems to be no innocents. As I see more and more government intervention, I am pretty sure I will have to do a long term test on the survival rate of subjects who have tested the recipes in the booking on cooking.
