Special Happy Easter Edition!
After years of being treated as party crashers at the White House Easter Egg Roll, this year the Obamas have invited hundreds of gay families to be honored guests, according to Phoenix Progressive Examiner Debbie Jordan.
Jennifer Chrisler, executive director of the Family Equality Council, told 365gay.com, “The Obama administration actually reached out to us as an organization, and said they wanted gay families there, and they are an important part of the American family fabric,” Chrisler said Tuesday she expects more than 100 gay and lesbian families to take part in the egg roll.
Of course, Easter weekend is the annual not-so-holy White Party in Palm Springs. San Diego Gay Community Examiner Erik Siwak reported that this year's headliner was Lady Ga Ga, whose shtick I totally don't get. To me, she's a poor man's Christina Aguilera/Goldfrapp wannabe with a stupid name who can't sing and wears cheap Halloween costumes and makeup. But for some reason she's a big hit with the gays. Hey, to each his own. Siwak says The White Party "always attracts top DJs and talent," and this year it's Manny Lehman, Kimberly S., Brett Henrichsen, Chi Chi LaRue, Joe Gauthreaux, Ana Paula and Andy Bell of Erasure fame. Yay.

Atlanta Gay Nightlife Examiner Will Focht reported on one of the city's most popular events, the Armorette's Easter Drag Races. I used to live in Atlanta and I can tell you first hand that this thing is a hoot! It takes place at Burkhart's, an Atlanta gay institution. Participants have the opportunity to win some great prizes for wearing the most outrageous Easter bonnet, or finding the most eggs during the Easter Egg Hunt, competing in Blindfolded Musical Chairs, the Jell-O Shooter Toss, or the Condom Blow-Up Competition

As for me, I'm going to the Hunky Jesus Contest in Dolores Park here in San Francisco. Free to the public and organized by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the annual Easter Celebration takes place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Festitivies start with a children's easter egg hunt from 11 a.m. -noon, then live entertainment from noon until 2 p.m. from such local luminaries as Ethel Merman, Trauma Flinstone, Katya Smyrnoff-Skyy, Kitten on the Keys, and Suppositori Spelling. Performers from Beach Blanket Babylon hold an Easter bonnet contest at 1 p.m., and the Hunky Jesus Contest kicks off at 3:40 p.m.

Following the festivities, the Sisters will host their 30th Anniversary Afterbirth. Every year after the Easter celebration, the Sisters and their guests take the party out of the park and into the Castro. This year, they've decided to make it a little more official and, along with Energy 92.7, are setting up a stage and bringing entertainment to Noe and Market, in between Cafe Flore and the Lookout.
Keep the party going at Afterbirth and then head on out into the Castro for more fun!
