To honor the anniversary of Gears of War 2’s release, Epic has turned on triple XP from November 6 until November 16.
In addition to the insane amount of XP to be earned, there are some other differences thrown into the mix for fun. Called “tactical mode,” all multiplayer modes now have increased bullet damage and decreased ammo counts, as well as increased bleed out time. Also, public Horde matches are now defaulted to Hardcore difficulty and the playlists now include straight-up game types in addition to the regular modes (i.e. you can simply pick Annex or Warzone instead of the normal playlist types that you choose by map pack).
While this is wicked fun and now makes a few of those brutal multiplayer rank achievements a little easier to unlock, could Epic have picked a worse time? Maybe the ten days leading up to the anniversary instead of the ten days after? Turning on triple XP during the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 may be a desperate attempt to keep gamers playing Gears, but that is like trying to stop a freight train with a sheet of construction paper! Either way, enjoy your triple XP until Monday night at midnight when you may be playing some other game instead…
