You might be too caught up in all of the MLB All-Star action to realize there are many, many more things going on in its wake. For one, July 14th is also Bastille Day – in France, it is called Fête Nationale ("National Celebration"). A day of celebration, a happy remembrance of the French Revolution which might be burned into your memory as a time of political tumoil and rolling heads!  But in celebration of this day and this city's French heritage, add a French accent to you conversations about le baseball and zee MeLB-All-Ztar game.

Screening of “On Borrowed Time”: Documentary about Reginald Clemons
Our Featured Documentary for the month of July, Borrowed Time is the latest documentary from The Color of Justice film series, which focuses on how our perceptions of differences in race and class lead to disparities on several fronts. Created by a team led by Ronnell Bennett, Borrowed Time examines the life and case of Reginald Clemons, a Missouri death row inmate who found himself at the mercy of a corrupt justice system. At the age of nineteen, Clemons could not afford competent counsel to defend his capital murder case, and his trial attorney was later disbarred. Nels Moss, the prosecutor in all four of the defendants' cases, was found in contempt of court during Reggie's trial. Reggie's beaten confession, his unfit attorneys, prosecutorial misconduct and other factors are the basis for a case of reasonable doubt. Reggie remains on death row today.
