A few months ago, it was Courtney Love suing Activision for Kurt Cobain's spot-on imitation of Jon Bon Jovi in Guitar Hero 5. Now, it's No Doubt's turn. In a not-so-surprising turn of events, the group is none too pleased that their digital selves will be singing not just their songs in the just-released Band Hero, but all of the other songs in the game as well. Yup, No Doubt, aka that band Gwen Stefani is in when she's not doing her day job (kidding), will be singing all the hits like "Angels of the Silences" by the Counting Crows (cool) to Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorns" (cheesy, but accetable, I guess) and the Spice Girl's "Wannabe" (uh oh). Yeah, I can imagine why No Doubt would be annoyed.
The difference between what happened with Cobain and No Doubt is that the people are still alive to defend themselves. It's kind of hard to imagine what Cobain would be capable of if he were still alive. All we can go by is that he would not cool with this, but No Doubt might be, even though they're saying otherwise. However, if Activision can bust out with the contracts that says that the band did sign off on this, then there's nothing that can be done, save for not buying the game, which you should do anyway. I'm guessing in future iterations, Activision just won't bother with the avatars or keep them locked to their respective band's songs to prevent future hassle. Can't wait for the next lawsuit, which will be Bob Dylan suing Activision because he's singing his son's crappy songs. And I like "6th Avenue Heartch
