Is it the lively polka bands? Is it the need to drink your stein of beer quickly? Is it all the encased meat products? I just don't know what I love the most about the German Day Festival 2009 (a.k.a German-American Festival). This end of summer/beginning of fall festival has all the goods: Germans, German beer, large crowds, and more Germans. An additional bonus is having the Chicago Brauhaus right around the corner...where there are more Germans.

When: September 11-13; 5-11 p.m. Friday; noon-11 p.m. Saturday; noon-10 p.m. Sunday

Where: Lincoln Plaza, located at Western, Lincoln and Leland

Why: Beyond the beer and brats, because things can get a little nutty; check out this photo I took at the Fest last year

Drinking by the stein-load, you're definitely not going to want to drive. Find a way to take the CTA.
