Five things you'll remember after your Taste of Chicago food coma
Do not be alarmed…this post will provide a glimpse of the future. I am capable of such gifted foresight from time to time. This future shall be bright, despite the challenges that a gluttonous event such as the
Taste of Chicago (June 27-July 6) can provide. Put your hands on the crystal ball and read these five future memories:
1. You joined the spirit of the Mayor's Office of Special Events' mandate-that all restaurants offer at least one healthy item-and bought potato chips (considered a healthy item) at the Billy Goat Inn booth. Read more about this interesting mandate on
Emily Spoza’s Examiner page. Do it now!
2. You purchased a
Crazy Creek Chair before the event. This was a great idea because the proximity of the Taste makes it difficult to carry around a cumbersome foldout chair. The compact Crazy Creek Chair, however, just might fit in your pocket!
Note: The previous comment about the Crazy Creek Chair fitting in you pocket was not to be taken literally. Do not attempt for risk of what is known as “pants ripping.” You need your pants.
3. You bought four sheets (maximum allowed per purchase) of 12 tickets at Dominick's (find a
location) and paid $6 a sheet instead of $8 a sheet like all those other
schmoes (look it up, it’s a word) at the event. You thought ahead and purchased them before the cut-off on Thursday, June 26 (hurry up!). You also knew ahead of time that four sheets would not be enough; however, your financial savvy has made you the life of the party and a hero to all of your friends and mankind.
4. You visited the following new additions to the Taste lineup:
The Breakfast Club: They are new to the Taste this year and one of your favorite places to get breakfast in the city. Their
Taste menu provided you with a needed midday breakfast fix.
Las Tablas: You knew this was great place to go with a large group of friends and eat enormous plates of Colombian-style meat and beans and potatoes. Their
Taste menu looked unbelievable, too, thus why you stopped there.
Wow Bao: You had wanted to visit this innovative restaurant for a while. You had been researching Bao before the Taste (
menu) and found the idea of steamed buns filled with meat and/or vegetables to be the
cat’s pajamas. You wished that you had thought of the idea yourself, but did not hold a grudge for too long.
5. You broke out of you coma just enough to make it to the Petrillo Music Shell well before 5:30pm on Saturday, June 29. You reserved a fantastic seat for you and your friends for the indomitable Stevie Wonder. The "icing on the cake" of the show was running into me and becoming pals.
