Agyness Deyn for Jean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame

PINK MANHATTAN blog

I love you, Ma Dame...you set my soul on fire.  Jean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame (2008) is my new favorite perfume.  It has replaced Givenchy Very Irrésistible as my everyday go-to "signature".  A lush orange floral blend made crisp and extra energetic, it seems like the perfect light version of Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, which had always felt too heavy on the ambery woods for me.  Believe it or not, Ma Dame even reminds me of the new Francis Kurkdjian APOM pour Femme, only digitized and turned into a spritzer.  I suppose it wouldn't be too far-fetched, considering he is the nose behind Ma Dame.  Francis Kurkdjian is also the perfumer for Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male and Fleur du Mâle, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, Lanvin Rumeur and trendsetting FiFi winner Narciso Rodriguez for Her (2003 in collaboration with Christine Nagel).  I've worn Narciso, too, but this Ma Dame rocks in a breezy way.  The energy's refreshing and keeps up with me (it's been cold here, you know).  Francis Kurkdjian is one of my favorite perfumers, and this scent just seals it. Ma Dame seemed a bit too synthetic and sharp at first, but I shouldn't have passed it up on my many strolls through Sephora.  On the skin, it cuts through the brisk city air and really blooms and gives off the most intoxicatingly happy citric floral sillage with a minimalist urban edge.  It's not too spicy and has all of the uncontrived warmth and depth of a white floral heart (my favorite genre), making this fragrance simple, wearable and pretty, albeit a bit brash like juniper or yuzu.  It's the sweetness on the inside that counts, a gorgeous mix of tropical and garden flowers, the incensey final dry down that feels serene, very Narcisse Noir.  The squeaky clean punk-glam image of superstar model Agyness Deyn seems to fit this perfume well. I like the bottle, too; never cared for the busty torso but the cubic glass encasing in sheer grenadine hues is cute.  Who doesn't love a good Shirley Temple?  Ma Dame is my new Happy...my favorite scent in 1999!  I chose the 1 fl. oz. but might want this in all three sizes plus a miniature.

The notes according to this document at docstoc.com:
Jean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame (2008)
A floral peppery fragrance with notes of musk, grenadine, acidic orange, rose and citrus
