"Invest 97 upgraded to TD #11 and likely to be Ida soon"
I wanted to make a quick post about our tropical system in the southwest Caribbean. The NHC upgraded the system to TD #11 at 10am and it will likely be upgraded to Tropical Storm Ida at 4pm. Recon is in there now and is finding winds around 45-50 kt just off the surface and a pressure of 998mb. This should make TD #11 a tropical storm. The future of Ida is uncertain at the moment. The whole area is a convluted mess and the models are probably going to have a hard time resolving Ida, the system in the southern Gulf, and also the area of disturbed weather behind Ida. Ida seems like it is going to move inland for a time over eastern Nicaragua and Honduras but will likely re-emerge in the northwest Caribbean in a few days and have an opportunity to sit and develop. More tomorrow.
