“Cool next few days”
“Warmer pattern as we head into the weekend and next week”

An upper level disturbance will move through the state tonight bringing the chance of some snow showers in the higher elevations of the mountains and a slight chance of a shower across parts of the southern part of the state. However, I think any precip will be very light and of little consequence. So if you see a light shower tonight don’t be shocked.

We are looking at a dry and cool next few days after tonight with temperatures warming as we head towards the weekend and next week. Thursday night is looking slightly warmer today which means that the frost/freeze threat may be limited to the northern foothills and northwest piedmont and Raleigh may stay in the mid 30s as opposed to the low 30s. Friday night still looks like the best shot at a hard frost or freeze in the Triangle as temps should be in the 32-34 range.

A developing trough in the southern plains will help promote a strong ridge over the southeast US as we head into this weekend and next week and temperatures will warm accordingly surging back into the 70s for Sunday and Monday. The biggest anomalies will be to our north.

A cold front which could possibly tap some tropical moisture from a system in the Gulf may affect the area by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week bringing the chance of rain for mid week.

The models are differing in the handling of a western/central US trough in the day 8-10 time frame and that may affect how our weather for late next week and the following weekend plays out. For now I think that we will likely stay above normal most all of next week and probably into the following weekend.  By around 11/16-11/18 we may see a trough re-form in the eastern US and lead to a cooler pattern for at least several days.
