This is one of my personal favorites that I drew in 2005. I'm not exactly a Trekki, but I am a fan. Just about every kid grew up in the eighties watching Star Trek reruns. They aired weekends, weekdays, even late night for no reason. And I'm not talking about cable TV. My parents didn't pitch in for that luxury until I was in my late teens.
I remember being stuck in a hospital waiting room once, not sure why, and on the TV attached to the wall above me was the episode where Captain Kirk takes on the Lizard Man with the silvery fly-like eyes. As stupid as it sounds, watching Star Trek all alone in a hospital waiting room was very comforting.
Who wouldn't want to take a ride on the S.S. Enterprise? Certainly, you might not want to be in command, but to go out in space if not for only a couple of hours would be glorious. And I'm sure if you were able to stay a week, sleeping in a star ship must be the most comfortable place to crash. The serenity of being surrounded by the naked universe with the humming of the engines...man, I'm falling asleep right now.
Here's to the hope that the new Star Trek movie will be just as reassuring as the series we all know and love.
