...doesn't mean no one will like the other. That is, if you like red, provide some white wines at your party. You're a white-varietal fan? Stock up on some reds.
What sounds like a "duh" tip is really quite practical...I've been guilty of playing the ignorant host once or twice. Notice I said to stock up on "wines" not "wine." In preparation for a March birthday, I went shopping with my s.o., and here's how the conversation went as we filled our cart with Pinots and Cabernets:
"Should we get a white? Just in case?"
"Yes, let's get one. Just in case. No one drinks white wine."
"Right."
Imagine my self-horror as our first guest, then our second, asked for white. Thank goodness I had the most gracious guests who wordlessly switched to red when the sole Chardonnay bottle ran dry.
This follows a basic business principle: "Consider the wants and needs of your customer." Or, in the case of a party host, your guests.
