Todays memorial for Michael Jackson turned out to be an emotional, poignant gathering of respect for the King of Pop. I'm sure that Michael himself would have been truly honored to hear the words of love shared by his friends and family alike. The memorial had a great mix of stories and sentiments as well as musical and humanitarian tributes to Jackson. Although the gathering was in honor of a legend who will be truly missed, the inspiration was to leave and make an indent of positive change to our world.
One of the more emotional parts of the memorial was when Jackson's 11 year old daughter Paris, spoke about her father. She shared, "I just wanted to say, ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just wanted to say, I love him so much." She then fell into Janet's arms and wept.
Like any memorial, it's hard to leave and not think of our own mortality. It's a great reminder for us to never take our lives for granted. It's sometimes easy to get wrapped up in our worries and stresses, especially in the economic struggles that we're currently facing. But our lives are a gift from God and our time here is precious. Let us stop today and give thanks for the blessings around us, the ones that sometimes go unrecognized.
