Four hours away by air, Iceland's Reykjavik is growing into a hot destination for gourmet dining, nightlife and much more, and this month, tourism and government officials are visiting to Boston to acquaint potential visitors with the charms their country has to offer from food to films to music.
A Taste of Iceland, March 11-17, celebrates IcelandAir's new direct nonstop flights between the two cities. As the Vikings return to the New World to court potential tourists, they're bringing top chefs such as Thorarinn Eggertsson, owner and head chef of Orange in downtown Reykjavík, who's cooking up with Icelandic dishes such as cod sous vide and flying calamari at Boston's esteemed Rustic Kitchen in Park Square. Working closely with Chef Tom Holloway, Rustic Kitchen is offering a taste of Chef Thorarinn's cuisine as part of a special tasting menu during the promotion.
A cultural program offers free movies at Kendall Square Cinema as well as musical programs at a variety of area venues from Middle East to T.T. The Bear's Place.
