Trick or Teets?! Yes, please!

1. “The Union: A Very Civil War”, A Sketch Comedy Show By Married Couple Opens At Donny’s Skybox

The Union, a sketch comedy group featuring real life married couple Corey Rittmaster and Monique Madrid, will be performing their latest revue “A Very Civil War” at Donny’s Skybox Theater at Second City.  The show runs every Thursday from September 10 through October 8 at 10:30pm.

The show is directed by Jeff Nominated Second City e.t.c. cast member Amanda Blake Davis and explores how the duo deals with conflict, both in life as well as within themselves.  In a variety of scenes, The Union lets the audience in on how this diverse couple has to defend their race and ethnicity, takes them inside a marriage counseling session, into the ridiculous world of a late-night easy-listening DJ, a pick-up artist in the 17th century and much more.

The Union recently appeared at the Milwaukee Comedy Festival, where the Milwaukee Shepherd-Express called them “tastefully twisted on many levels”.  Additionally, they stated that “Corey and Monique reached for comic brilliance in a number of skits. Sharp writing was delivered impeccably.”

Rittmaster and Madrid, married since 2004, are veteran improv and sketch comedy performers.  Both have performed at The Annoyance Theater, ComedySportz, iO (formerly ImprovOlympic), and are currently ensemble members of Laugh Out Loud Theater.

Tickets to “The Union: A Very Civil War” are $10 ($8 for students, $5 for Training Center) and are available by contacting Donny’s Skybox, 1608 N. Wells (Piper's Alley 4th Floor) in Chicago, at 312-337-3992, or online at www.secondcity.com.

2. The Annoyance is excited to announce the opening of “UFC: Under Forced Closure,” a play that displays the last variety show at a fictional Las Vegas lounge before its lounge is demolished.

For 30 years Jon Broadway and the LeSabre sisters have been hosting a gaggle of quality variety acts... and some that they just can't get rid of. The Las Vegas lounge is being demolished to make way for the Ultimate Fighting Championship's new mixed marital arts-themed casino. The theatre is set to go under the wrecking ball after the show, so please be prompt - we don't want to run long!

“UFC: Under Forced Closure” is directed by Josh Miller who also directed “Dare To Offend” in the Second City’s ETC theatre, “Shakesploitation!” at Gorilla Tango and “DJ Cliff: Rapping: I Did That,” an original 20 minute one-act as part of The Annoyance’s Triple Feature series.

“UFC: Under Forced Closure” previews September 20, opens September 27 and will run every Sunday at 8pm through November 15. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased either at The Annoyance website, theannoyance.com or by calling the box office at (773) 561-HONK (4665). The Annoyance is located at 4830 N. Broadway, Chicago, Illinois.

3. Actor-comedian Lucy Bauer brings her one-woman sketch show, DESPERATE, to Gorilla Tango Theatre. Lucy introduces the audience to characters who are essentially, well, desperate! Written and performed by Lucy Bauer, the show is a mixture of improvised and written scenes as well as scenes involving audience participation. Don’t think it can get any better than that? Well just wait until you hear Lucy’s infamous monologue based upon her own true-life biggest act of desperation…you won’t believe your ears! DESPERATE performs Saturdays at 6pm, September 12 – October 3, 2009, at Gorilla Tango Theatre, 1919 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago 60647. Tickets are $10; to purchase tickets call 773-598-4549 or visit www.gorillatango.com.

5. Stir Friday Night announces the premiere of their new sketch show “Rock Out With Your Wok Out!” Saturday, September 26, 2009 at The Donny Skybox Theater. The Stir Friday Night organization consists of all Asian-American performers who create sketch shows based on Asian-American themes. They’ve been together for almost 15 years and this is their third fall sketch show at The Skybox Theatre. Stir Friday Night also performs at college and corporate events all over the US and recently celebrated ensemble member Danny Pudi being cast in the NBC sit-com “Community.”  The current Stir Friday Night sketch show runs for seven weeks and tickets are $12.

“For our upcoming show, we draw upon the stories of our parents' generation as inspiration for satirical sketches and songs,” says Neal Dandade, Director of Programming and Performance. “Our parents' stories are as unique as each our members, covering themes such as immigration, re-adjustment to family life in the US, and ritual tongue-speak. We are excited to share these stories with our audience, as we are sure they will identify with these stories...especially the more bizarre ones like ritual tongue-speak.”

“As we move toward our 15th anniversary for Stir-Friday Night, it’s time that we look back and examine what lead our parents to America in the first place and then to look within ourselves to define our experience -- the Asian American experience,” adds Artistic Director Harrison Pak. “We’ve added some really funny people to our ensemble this year and their voices will play a large part in our show.  Fans of our fall sketch shows love laughing with their old favorites and meeting our fresh new faces.”
