Bailey's Maryland Avenue

Don’t overcomplicate your wardrobe during these upcoming summer months. You’re sure to find when you keep your ensemble carefree and light, your appearance will inspire your mood. Keep in fashion with these three simple steps:

I’m going to use Bailey’s Maryland Avenue (BMA) in Annapolis (one very cool boutique), by the way, as inspiration for my rules.

1. Let your patterns do the talking. From floral prints to stripes, patterns express an individual’s summer style better than a monochromatic outfit any day. Another bonus of patterned outfits: stains are less visible to others (which is ideal for those monster eaters like myself, who would much rather sacrifice style to sirloin). My favorite patterned dress from BMA right now is their giraffe print dress, which has subtle details of tiny giraffes placed abstractly throughout the dress. Too cool!

2. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean it’s time to show your goods to the world. This is specifically written for women who love the low-rise jeans… and the hazards that come with wearing them. This July, leave your parts south of the border to our imagination. If you can’t give up your low-rise jeans, a neat little invention carried by BMA actually covers your underpants (and other items) from showing when you sit, and it gives the impression that you’re wearing a second camisole to others!

3. Your jewelry needs to be as bold and as bright as the sun itself. These aren’t the months for simple 14K gold necklaces and sterling silver post earrings. Show your spice and vivacity with textured gold bangles, intricate sterling silver drop necklaces, and chunky urban earrings! Embellished accessories are much cheaper to incorporate into your wardrobe than a new outfit, and often give more impact. I’m in love with BMA’s chunky 14K gold bangles and animal cocktail rings.

I know, I can’t get enough of the animal.
