Leather Bed

Have you heard?

After 27 years of business in our community, Lauman’s has been forced by the current economic conditions to close its doors. They plan to liquidate their entire inventory within the next few weeks, and have begun selling their inventory at 70% off.

Perched atop Belair and Silver Spring Rd., Lauman’s carries furniture ideal for classic homeowners who can appreciate a quality-made piece of furniture. I’m not talking about a drive to Ikea, pick up a Klargnklag coffee table, and spend all morning trying to figure out what the little man on the instructions is pointing to piece of furniture. I mean a grown-up bedroom set, using only the finest materials, such as this decadent leather bed (pictured right).

Does the housing crisis have anything to do with their doors closing? Yes. But the fact that big-box stores (my arch enemies) such as Sam’s Club now carry home furnishings at rock bottom prices has not helped this small company either. There is no greater feeling than purchasing something at a ridiculously low price, trust me, I know. But keeping a local neighbor’s business afloat and pumping more money into Baltimore’s economy has a greater effect on your pockets in the long run. Keep that in mind when shopping this holiday season.
