Lotus proudly announced today that they had received two EVO awards from the prestigious UK based auto rag, EVO Magazine. The Evora was voted “EVO Car of the Year 2009” and the Lotus 2-Eleven was voted “EVO Track car of the Year 2009.”

The journalists headed off to the remote and beautiful Scottish Isle of Skye, http://www.skye.co.uk/ putting various cars through a 1,000 mile three day test of technically challenging roads. The Lotus Evora staved off competition from exotic names like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin, then made it into the top five cars before clinching the title with a total of 96 points out of 100.

Journalists were quick to praise the cars' characteristics despite the hefty competition. John Barker, Motoring Editor said of the Evora, "It's a magical thing across the ground, deft like an Elise, with exceptional poise and feel. What was telling for me was that, getting into it after any of the other finalists, it was even better than I remembered: a bit smoother, a bit quicker and even sweeter dynamically, too. It's a beguiling car."

David Vivian, Contributing Editor, commented, "A quite brilliant car and worthy winner."

It’s a huge rubber stamp of approval for the Evora and confirms the company made the right decision in its gamble to make a car more accessible to a customers everyday driving needs, but who still want the Lotus performance package on tap.

The ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’ event was conducted at the fast and demanding West Circuit at the Bedford Autodrome also in the UK. Up against 11 other track happy cars which included a variety of exotic machinery, the Lotus 2-Eleven set the second fastest time and impressed the judges with its poise and general handling.

Roger Green, Track Test Editor, when commenting on the 2-Eleven said "Every single judge described (the 2-Eleven) as 'superb' in their assessment notes."

Henry Catchpole, Road Test Editor, stated that "It’s fabulous. It takes the habitability, finish and dimensions of the road car and adds the dynamics and awesome gearbox of a race car."

Luke Bennett, Operations Director of Lotus Cars Limited said that "I am delighted that the Evora took the title of “EVO Car of the Year 2009” and it is made even better that at the same time the 2-Eleven has won the Track Car of the Year competition. The Evora and 2-Eleven offer very different ownership propositions; however both have the same Lotus DNA and each reward the driver with a great Lotus driving experience.”

Luke went on to say "It is a great endorsement for Lotus cars that the most refined car in the product line up is picking up awards at the same time as the most extreme car in the range, illustrating the great wealth of engineering and manufacturing expertise at Lotus."

Lotus has been shining quite brightly amongst the automotive giants in recent years and the company’s latest results bode well for future products. What’s particularly nice about Lotus is that they continue to prove that a quality, high performance vehicle doesn’t need to be outrageously expensive to own and operate.
