Lotus revealed its latest model in Tokyo today, the Exige Scura, limited to just 35 cars

Wednesday, Oct. 21st.

Lotus revealed that a limited edition version of the Exige, the ‘Scura’ will go on sale as of today. The ‘Scura’ translated from the Italian means ‘dark’ and the entire look reflects the inherent driving character of the car and this is one mean, but cool looking beastie.

Adorned with a soft-feel matt black paint finish the vehicle looks reminiscent of a stealth bomber. Lotus didn't scrimp on attention to detail for the Scura and trimmed down the car’s weight by using more carbon fiber as well as fitting it with Lotus’ most powerful production engine, which generates 257hp and 174lbft torque@6,000rpm. The car will run to a top speed of 245km/h and reach 100kp/h in just 4.1 seconds.

Luke Bennett, Director of Lotus Cars said, “The Exige Scura is a stunning vehicle which offers an adrenaline fuelled experience and is a real head-turner! Our Exige customers choose Lotus because we deliver thrilling performance and dynamic design and this special edition fits the bill on both counts.”

In addition to the fabulous new paint job, carbon fiber front splitter, oil cooler inlet vanes and distinctive side airscoops, the vehicle also includes:

• Launch control to ensure optimum performance from a standing start
• Variable slip traction control, enabling the driver to tune the car to track surface conditions and their own driving style
• Ohlins 2-way adjustable dampers for personalised ride and handling characteristics

Despite the race bred performance and handling, which few cars replicate, the Scura is surprisingly green. Roger Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director, highlighted the performance of the Exige Scura, “There are very few cars in the world that turn in the performance of the Exige Scura without the penalty of very high fuel consumption and emissions. As with all Lotus sportscars we offer the best of both worlds – a zero to 100 km/h time of just over 4 seconds and a CO2 figure of 199 g/km; all this is down to light weight and a strict adherence to Lotus’ core brand values.”

The only fly in the ointment is that a mere 35 units will be available for purchase globally and the car is already on sale in Europe, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Indonesia and Malaysia. In Japan the car is known as the ‘Lotus Exige Stealth’ and is currently on display at the Tokyo Auto Show. It’s unclear whether the Scura is available for sale in the USA just yet, but given the looks, the performance and the price, around 45,000 British pounds, the Scura will be one of the most desirable vehicles from Lotus for some time to come. http://www.tokyo-motorshow.com/en/index.html
