When the 2009 Webby award winners were announced in May, I posted a list of my top 10 favorite winners. Most of these are obscure, quirky websites which warrant at least a look.
This week, the Webby award ceremony took place with much glitz in New York. Here are the highlights.
- Ariana Huffington: "I didn't kill newspapers, OK?"
- Jimmy Fallon was awarded a Webby for Person of the Year. His acceptance speech was "Thank God, Conan got promoted."
- MIT professor Sir Tim Berners-Lee was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award for his pioneering efforts on the HTTP protocol and the web.
- Seth Meyers, head writer for Saturday Night Live, opened with a speech you have to watch.
