The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center is home to “the nation’s largest collection of helicopters” with over 35 choppers inside and out of the building. This institution dedicated to "historic aircraft", is located on the outskirts of the city of Philadelphia, in West Chester, PA.
This is a kid friendly museum with various visuals to make the visit one of educational fun. You’ll find military, rescue and civilian helicopters like the “Cobra” and “Huey”, with descriptions of their use and components.
There’s a play area for children under 6, with puzzles and crayons for creating their own colorful aeronautical device. There’s a table with cars and roadways to play with, metallic walls with magnetic helicopter puzzle pieces, a movable helicopter for kids to ride and even a kiddie sized Air Traffic Control booth.
Larger helicopters are housed outside for all to admire and explore. There are 6 full-sized helicopters for the adults and bigger kids to enjoy. Climb inside the cockpit and pretend to operate the craft’s flight stick or use the Flight Simulator for an additional fee.
Visit the outdoor picnic area to eat your packed lunches.
The museum is handicap accessible, which means it’s stroller accessible too.
And mom’s of diaper wearers, there’s a large bench in the bathroom suitable for diaper changes and a diaper pail for tidy disposal.
