Short takes from the week in Colorado water:
Southern Delivery System
Secretary Salazar has appointed Deanna Archuleta to shepherd the project for Interior and watch Colorado Springs Utilities $123 million effort to mitigate the effects of the proposed pipeline from Lake Pueblo to the east side of town. The deputy assistant secretary for water and science will work full time on the project according to a report in The Pueblo Chieftain.
Salazar was in Pueblo talking water issues on Friday. He hopes to see the Arkansas Valley Conduit funded soon. The project is a proposed raw water supply pipeline for cities east of Pueblo stretching to the Colorado Kansas border. Although included in the original authorization legislation for the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project it has never been built.
Flaming Gorge pipeline
Opposition to Aaron Million's proposed pipeline running from the Green River and Flaming Gorge to Colorado's Front Range is still vocal in Utah. At a recent Vernal chamber luncheon opponents were arguing that the volume of water to be diverted is not sustainable.
Northern Integrated Supply Project
The Fort Morgan City Council may be getting nervous about the chances that the Northern Integrated Supply Project will get built any time soon. The council started discussing alternatives at their meeting last Tuesday.
