Short takes from the week in Colorado water:

Standup paddling clinic July 17-19 in Buena Vista

Don't miss the standup paddling clinic in Buena Vista July 17-19. Winner of the recent standup paddling championships, Dan Gavere, will be leading the charge.

Big rains

All the wet weather has storage full all over the state. Blue Mesa is three inches from spilling while Reclamation is bypassing flows in the Blue River through Green Mountain Reservoir. The South Platte River and Clear Creek are both "free rivers." The wet moist June enabled a release from Bonny Reservoir to do some testing of Colorado's Republican River Compact commitments.

Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District

The district held its inaugural meeting last week. It is an outgrowth of the Fountain Creek Task Force. The board will try to coordinate the various groups vying to develop, protect and mange the Fountain Creek watershed.

Red Cliff scores $2 million worth of stimulus dough

Red Cliff is in a position to move forward on upgrades to their wastewater treatment plant. Mayor Ramon Martinez thinks it's pretty much a done deal.

Upper Blue Sanitation District wastewater upgrades

Meanwhile just over the hill (sort of) from Red Cliff they're getting ready to start on expansion of Farmer's Korner wastewater treatment plant.

Colorado Trout Unlimited 2009 Conservation Awards

Congratulations to Melinda Kassen the recipient of CTU's 2009 Bruce Hoagland Award for Leadership in Conservation. Here's the release.

Republican River referee report due June 30

All hands are on deck waiting for the referee's report on compliance under the Republican River Compact. Colorado is hoping to build a pipeline to dump water in the river at the Nebraska line. So far neither Nebraska and Kansas have warmed to the idea.

Castle Rock expanding conservation efforts with rebates

One of the surest ways a utility has to encourage conservation is to offer rebates and water saving technology. That's just what Castle Rock is doing. The utility is, "...doling out rain sensors and sprinkler head rotary nozzles, as well as offering incentives for reducing the amount of water-guzzling plants and grass in their yard," according to Douglas County News Press.

FIBArk recap

The annual festival along the Arkansas River was a big success again this year. The events center around a race down the river.
