By now, you've probably heard about Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland. I've certainly posted quite a few articles on the matter with a preview back in March, some character pictures and concept art back in June, and some full character shots earlier this month. So if you're a fan of Tim Burton or Lewis Carrol's classic children's tale, then you should hopefully be getting excited for its release early next year.
There had been some online reports that a teaser trailer would be debuting at Comic-Con. Well, it looks like that teaser has shown up online a bit earlier than expected. The film has been described as blending live-action with 3D animation. You can kind of get a glimpse of how the 3D will be used in the film during the trailer, especially during Alice's fall down the rabbit hole. Some reports are saying they find Johnny Depp's version of the Mad Hatter to be creepy and clownish. Weren't there similar reports when Depp portrayed Willy Wonka in Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? From what I've read and heard, the response for Burton's Chocolate Factory was pretty positive overall, so the same result should be expected with his version of Wonderland.
I've heard debates about the rating come up with people thinking the teaser makes the film look too dark to get a PG rating and is likely to get a PG-13 rating. Burton's style definitely seems to feel more comfortable in a PG-13 setting, but I believe the film is contractually obligated to get a PG rating since it's being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. At least it was like that for Prince Caspian (accordig to Wikipedia). So we shall see. The film will be phenomenal and do well at the box office despite what the rating is.
Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will be released domestically in IMAX and conventional theaters on March 5, 2010. The teaser trailer can be seen below.
Watch it quick. It's being taken down all over the web. It's only a matter of time before this one is gone, as well.
