A new trailer for James Cameron's long anticipated and visually stimulating Avatar has made its way onto the internet. While the film has been labeled as having the most groundbreaking 3D animation to date, the film's first trailer didn't really reel me in so much. This new trailer, however, reveals a bit more of the story and actually makes me want to see the film. The story centers around an ex-marine who's thrown into a war taking place on an alien planet filled with bizarre and colorful alien life forms. The ex-marine is able to endure a procedure that places his human mind in the body of an alien as he finds himself in a fight for his own survival and that of the exotic people. Avatar will be released in conventional and IMAX theaters on December 18th.

All trailers can be found at the bottom of the article.

Also making its rounds is a third trailer for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island. It's no secret that this was one of my most anticipated films of the year when it was set to be released this past October, but then news broke that the film would be pushed back to February and the reasoning behind that can be found here. The film looks better and better with each new trailer that's released. I'm a fan of most of Scorsese's work anyway, but I think this could wind up being one of his best films in years. The film is adapted from the novel by Dennis Lehane, who wrote the novels for Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone. Shutter Island is set in 1954 and introduces us to a U.S. marshall and his partner who are investigating the escape of a female prisoner from a mental hospital for the criminally insane. The film is set to be released February 19th, 2010.

A fourth trailer for Sherlock Holmes has also seen the light of day. It seems like this film is getting a ton of trailers, but I'm not complaining. The film looks incredibly entertaining with tons of action and a lot of laughs. With Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law the lead actors in the film, this has the potential to be Guy Ritchie's biggest film to date. My enthusiasm for the project has shown through in articles for two of the previous trailers, but I think Sherlock Holmes will be the last big hit of the year. Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes will be released this Christmas.

And finally, the long awaited first trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been unveiled as of late. I actually played the video games of the Prince of Persia series on PS2 and loved them, but when I heard Jake Gyllenhaal would be the prince I didn't think he would fit the part at all. The prince from the game the film is based on looked at least partially middle eastern or slightly darker in comparison to Gyllenhaal and I just had a hard time imagining the guy from Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain in the role. Gyllenhaal certainly put on some muscle, however, and actually fits the part better than I thought he would. Set in medieval Persia where a fearsome ruler looks to gain control of The Sands of Time, which could inevitably destroy the world. Prince Dastan and Tamina, a rival princess, set to return the sands to the hourglass by using The Dagger of Time which gives Dastan a limited control over the flow of time. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will be released May 28th, 2010.
