I figured a city keen on hosting in 2016 would be gagging for attention, hosting media events and publicity stunts aimed at impressing foreign committees. But unless I’m missing something, I don’t see a whole lot of local fanfare surrounding the games in Beijing.
I was way off. Turns out The Chicago Bar Olympics has us covered. All weekend long, teams from three regions, The South Side, Downtown and The North Side, will compete in five treasured games: darts, quarters, bags (cornhole), flippy cup and beer pong. Regional winners then duke it out this Sunday—the winner winning a trip to Vegas.
Need moral justification to spend your weekend drinking and tossing bags? Try The Beer Olympics at Cortland’s Garage—basically a smaller, less intense version of above with proceeds benefiting charity.
Off course hardcore fans of the real Olympics will be up at the 4am tomorrow making their way to The Globe to catch the US women’s soccer team in action.
