A new Cellcom commerical shows Israeli troops patrolling alongside the West Bank security fence. ... BOOM - a soccer ball crashes atop the hood of the IDF armored jeep. The soldiers, alarmed, exit the car. When they discover the "weapon," they kick it back over the fence. Pause ... the ball returns.
The soldiers jump on their cellular phones and call the "chevra," their soldier buddies. A lively game of soccer ensues ... between the Israelis on one side and what is assumed to be the Palestinians on the other.

A Facebook group is trying to get Cellcom to pull the TV commercial. They argue that it's "racist." The story was published in Ha'aretz over the weekend and then today by Washington Post.
Why do some assume it's racist? Because the company makes light of the separation fence and ignores the struggles it has caused for the Palestinians.
GUESS WHAT? There is nothing racist about this commercial, folks. In fact, I think the message is the opposite. Palestinians and Israelis both love soccer. They bond over a game - DESPITE THE SECURITY FENCE.
When you live in an intense environment like Israel, sometimes you have to make light. Come on ... there are many issues that come into play when you talk about the security fence - like how terror attacks have decreased by 84 percent since its establishment.
I think the commerical is cute. To me, it is saying that there does not have to be just bombs coming out of Palestinian towns. Palestinians and Israelis have a lot in common ... if only we could get past the violence.
