New world wellness series, part 1
Marshmallow crème filling and the new center of self

To begin our series on What To Build in 2009, we start at the center – the center of Self, that is. We all have ways of doing this, of remembering what is inside of us that drives our sense of meaning and purpose in life. However, in these rapidly changing times, that centerpoint may be undergoing a change or two. In fact, it may be pummeled, shaken, pureed….maybe even vaulted out to Venus and back. The result may be an inner state that that more closely resembles marshmallow crème than pristine light and crystal temples. Your inside may feel like the centers of those horrid Valentine’s Day candies that come two dozen to a cardboard box.
Resulting from this can be a sense of diffusion rather than focus, of suspended “not knowing” rather than grounded surety. If you are among the lucky to be ahead of the curve, you may have moved through this already and be feeling simpler, surer, in a state of “just knowing” what’s next. Are any of these states better than any others? Not unless you feel the need to judge. One might say that if you are feeling anything at all similar to the described states of diffusion, confusion, or not knowing, then you are remarkably normal, given what has been going on in the world
So, what now? What is the constructive, life-affirming way to approach such a state of affairs? Let’s look at how marshmallow crème insides can actually be a great place to start building a new world in 2009.
For starters, it is likely that you have left behind a lot that you don’t need anymore. Maybe you thought you needed it last month, before Christmas, or last year…but did you, really? What you left behind may look, feel, or seem very important or quite serious. For example, maybe you have let go of a home, a fair sum of money, some deeply held friendships, hopes, or dreams. Maybe you have even lost some family members or a spouse. It may have hurt. A lot. But now, as you emerge into the light of new possibility, it may be that what you had previously considered so necessary within your life is seen in a new way. Maybe there were more possibilities than you had imagined.
Now, consider the benefits of starting from a state of mushy, undefined lightness inside rather than some harsh grid that defines every move you make, every potential you could experience, every perception of yourself. Is it possible that marshmallow crème insides, with all of their natural purity and innocence, are more likely to lead to a state of open mind and open heart? Let’s allow that as a possibility for now.
Moving on, within this state of new potential that we are currently inhabiting, consider taking some time to become aware of what is the core of meaning that is driving your awareness, your choices, your behavior. If you feel into it, you might find that this meaning has been somehow refined – maybe even defined – by recent experiences. Some examples of core meaning might be: unity, family health, planetary sustainability, personal balance. You core meaning may be showing up at the level of self, family, community, or planet. In coming articles, we will be walking through a model for core meaning, how to find it, and how to be with it in a way that supports optimal personal health and balance.
For now, to help you focus, consider the following questions as a way to help you locate your sense of core meaning: the diamond in the center of that marshmallow creme filling.
1) What matters the most to me in life right now?
2) How am I devoting inner space to contemplate that priority (ex: reflection time, meditation, walks, etc.)?
3) What needs to shift in my life so that I can be more aligned with what is important to me?
Coming up: Visionary Planning: Star Maps on Earth (aka: what to do with that diamond you found in the marshmallow creme...)
Until next time!
