DENVER, CO- Denver’s own Del Norte Brewing Company takes top honors at the 2008 World Beer Championships.
Del Norte’s Mañana beer scored a “92” rating (Exceptional) and a Gold Medal in the Amber Lager category, surpassing competitors such as Michelob’s Amber Bock, Samuel Adams Boston Lager and others.
The event was hosted at the Beverage Tasting Institute in Chicago, and judged by beer drinkers who really know their lagers.
Del Norte’s timing couldn’t be better. In the current economic recession, a number of small local companies are struggling to stay profitable. Brewing in a small Denver warehouse for just over a year, owners Jack Sosebee ad Joseph Fox already have earned the privilege of saying they brew only award-winning beers. Del Norte took Bronze in two categories this year at the Colorado State Fair Foam Fest: Light Lager and European Amber Lager.
“Del Norte Brewing is making craft brew history,” says owner Jack Sosebee, “…brewing two great classic Mexican lagers, right here in Denver.”
Sosebee and Fox have only one other full-time employee, and their wives also help with the bottling. So how is this small brewery getting ahead in these tough economic times? Del Norte brews unique and time-tested Mexican-style beers.
“Both Órale and Mañana are terrific beers and no doubt would complement a plate of enchiladas or carne asada,” says Sosebee.
Del Norte is the only U.S. brewer specializing in Mexican-style beers. It’s brewed locally in small batches with traditional ingredients. Del Norte’s Órale is a light lager resembling Tecate or Corona. Mañana is a classic Vienna Lager, echoing Negro Modelo.
