How do you make your favorite beer taste even better?  Try pairing your beer with some great food!  Beer drinkers are finding out that all of the best beers are made even more enjoyable when you mix the right kinds of food with it.  While you may have known this to be the case, what you may not know is that our local Colorado breweries and brewpubs frequently host beer dinners and tastings to help introduce the public to the benefits of pairing the right food with their beer.

If the idea of trying out some great food and beer at the same time sounds tempting to you, then you may want to consider attending one of this weeks beer / food events.

Great Divide Beer and Cheese Pairing

When: Tuesday, October 21, 2008.  Where: Great Divide Brewing Company, downtown Denver.  Cost $10 per person.  Plan to visit the Great Divide brewery tonight for their monthly beer and cheese pairing.  There will be five different Great Divide beers paired with cheeses from local Denver cheese shop The Truffle.  This is an opportunity to discover the power of cheese.  Why should those cheese-heads in Green Bay have all the fun?  Taste some of the best beers on tap and see why cheese should be at your next party as well.  Phone: 303-296-9460 ext. 26 for details.

Chef & Brewer's Dinner

When: Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 6:00PM to 8:30PM.  Where:  Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in Westminster, CO.  Cost $40 per person.  A grand four course meal is being planned at the Westminster Rock Bottom restaurant.  Each course will be paired with one of Rock Bottom's locally made brews.  Menu items include: Butternut Squash Bisque paired with a light lager, Raspberry Shrimp Salad paired with a raspberry wheat beer, Colorado Rack of Lamb paired with a brown ale and Pumpkin Cheese Cake paired with a spiced ale. Makes your mouth water just reading about it!  Phone: 303-255-1625 for details.

20th Anniversary Brewer's Dinner

When: Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 6:30PM to 9:00PM at the Wynkoop Brewing Company in downtown Denver.  Cost $30 a person.  The Wynkoop is also planning a four course meal paired with their locally made brews.  Pairings include: a seven vegetable salad with the Obamanator beer, sweet corn and green chile soup with a special chili beer, a coffee rubbed flatiron with pumkin, zucchini and blue cheese with a smoked porter, and a peach cobbler paired with a hard cider.  And to top off the evening, enjoy a barrel aged barleywine.  Sounds like a great combination.  For reservations call: 303-297-2700.

Over the coming weeks and months, the Northern Colorado Beer Examiner will keep you updated on additional beer and food pairings.  Just because the beer festival season is over doesn't mean it's time to hang up the beer glasses for the year.
