JaMoVeDa Media will play host to Thelonius Thursday (The Freshly Unfamiliar) at Atlanta’s Foreign Exchange Café beginning this Thursday June 11, 2009. Thelonius Thursday will showcase the talents of musicians in the genres of progressive soul, experimental electronica, and undefined music genres. This event will appeal to a diverse audience ranging from undergraduates and graduate students, to professionals in the arts of music, fashion, entertainment, and everything in between.
As major labels begin to lose footing in the evolution of the music industry, independent labels and unsigned artists are rapidly gaining ground and popularity. This is a phenomenon that can most readily be attributed to indie music’s ability to present something new and altogether unfamiliar to an audience that has become increasingly disenchanted with the monotony of most “radio friendly” major label products.
Thelonius Thursday is positioned to become an extension of this increasing popularity of the independent and avant garde and will primarily showcase progressive soul and experimental electronica DJs, producers and musicians. The event’s objective is to not only expose new and underrepresented musicians to a broader audience but to also popularize underground music and connect its featured artists as well as those in attendance with music industry representatives and potential artistic collaborators.
This Thursday's featured guests will be Jaafar, A. Leon Craft and Ben Stevens.
Thelonius Thursday will take place on the second Thursday of every month from 9PM to 2AM. Admission is $10 before 12AM, ladies free before 11PM. All guests must be at least 21 years of age. The Foreign Exchange Café is located at 658 Whitehall St., Atlanta, Georgia 30310.
