Yesterday people could not turn away from the scenes of a homemade silver balloon floating more than 1000-feet off the ground with a boy from a reality show family accidentally on board.
But 6-year-old Falcon was in the attic the whole time. Police helicopters chased the experimental weather balloon through two counties before it landed in a field and was discovered empty.
With Falcon's recent reveal that it was a part of a reality show plot and the family's obvious distress when they thought the boy was in the baloon has some wondering. The family has made the rounds of morning TV today, with Falcon getting ill at two major network shows, one on air.
In TV appearances the morning, the Heene family, father Richard, mom Mayumi bristled at the notion this was all an attempt at attention.
But last night during a live interview on "Larry King Live," Falcon admitted he had heard the family calling for him during the chaos.
"You did?" Mayumi Heene asked.
"Why didn't you come out?" Richard Heene said.
"You had said that we did this for a show," Falcon said.
The Heene family have appeared on "Wife Swap" twice, most recently in March as fan favorites. They follow the weather and aliens, they say, and enjoy the limelight.
This morning on ABC, Falcon told his mom before it was too late that he was going to be sick. But on NBC's 'Today' show, he asked for a cup as Meredith Vieira continued talking to Richard Heene while Falcon threw up. Richard continued explaining Falcon's show reference from the night before as Falcon continued spitting up. Vieira broke off the interview so that the family could regroup and come back later.
Colorado police so far say that they believe this is not a hoax. Investigators will be looking into the event closely. No word on how much the 2-hour chase cost.
Warning, the video can be a bit intense for the weak of stomach.
