An otherwise stellar MTV Music Video Awards show was seriously marred last night by the totally disrespectful antics of rapper Kanye West.
Jumping onstage, during Taylor Swift's moment in the spotlight, as she accepted the award for Best Female Video, the rapper grabbed the microphone and proceeded to show himself to be the uncouth, self-absorbed troublemaker that he is, proclaiming that Beyonce's music video was the best. Had he been able to control himself, he would have seen that there was really no argument, since a short time later Beyonce would accept the award for Best Video of the Year. Beyonce, as it turns out, actually showed immense class by then calling Swift up to finish her acceptance.
Everyone has opinions and should be allowed to voice them; I don't argue that point with anyone. But stealing (I think that's the appropriate term) Taylor Swift's moment away, however, was not a statement of opinion, nor was it the time or place to act like a spoiled child under the auspices of praising someone else. It was more like a travesty.
This begs the question "Where is Stage Security these days?" I can't help but think that it was ironically the rapper's own notoriety that allowed any security forces to be stunned long enough for him to get away with his selfish actions. By the way, God help anyone that would have dared to take any of his moments of glory away, in that fashion.
