The new publisher for the Not So Modern Drummer magazine, George Lawrence, is bringing the Southern Drum Show back to Nashville. Lawrence, drummer for the band Poco as well as owner of George's Drum Shop Inc. and Famous Drums LLC, recently purchased the magazine from Bill Ludwig III and has some great plans for the business, which include resuming the sponsorship of the drum show in Nashville.

The return of the Southern Drum Show will be held at Sound Check, 750 Cowan St. in Nashville (the nation's largest rehearsal facility) on July 18th and 19th, just down the street from the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Show, which will have a one day head start but will also be running until the 19th. The drum show's proximity to the NAMM Show will likely ensure that there will be a lot of drum playing celebrities in town.

The Snare Drum Olympics, will also be held at the Sound Check facility just prior to the opening of the Southern Drum Show. The snare drums which the manufacturers enter, will be on display for the public to both audition and judge. Judging will be on July 16th, with the results being published on the 17th, just in time for the opening of the NAMM Show.
