I've already complained about Mayor Nickels' idea to shut down random Seattle streets over the next few weeks.  You can't drive on this one street = we save the planet!

Last weekend was the first run as 14th Avenue East near Volunteer Park was closed for several hours.  During that time 21 people got tickets for parking on that stretch of road.  Now the city is deciding to play nice ( and I can stop complaining for a day or two).  The violators will be getting a call or a letter from the city saying that they don't have to pay the fine.  Sweet!  There were also 13 drivers whose cars were towed.  And now it seems that the city will reimburse them for the fees incurred for the towing.  Wow!  No, they can't get back the time that was wasted in trying to get their cars out of impound.  But maybe they can console themselves with a scoop of ice cream bought with their newly retuned cash.

Let's all learn a lesson from this.  The city reserves the right to ticket and tow.  However,  Seattle Transportation spokesman Richard Sheridan says that officials hope it doesn't come to that next time.  The next area to look out for?  Rainier Avenue South will be closed between South Orcas and South Alaska streets Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
