So, there was a nice little meeting yesterday to discuss the future of the 520 floating bridge.  So far there had been four proposals in consideration for funding the project.  They varied in range in toll fares, toll locations and the length of time that the tolls would be in place.  Well, the City Council threw in their own idea yesterday and you may not want to hear it.

The City Council thinks that we should toll both state Route 520 and Interstate 90 - beginning in 2010!!  That toll would hover around $2.30 for a one way trip.  The Council says that putting a toll on both bridges, rather than 520 alone, is "more balanced and systematic. If you toll only 520, you imbalance the system, and divert more people to I-90,"

Exactly my point.  People like me will do some pretty sneaky things to avoid tolls or paying money for anything that we can maybe get for free.  If this plan goes through there won't be many reasonable places to hide.

If you would like to comment on the matter you can attend a 520 Tolling Implementation open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Mercer Island Community Center, 2040 84th Ave. S.E. on Mercer Island.  Or you can take the easy way out and just email them by visiting build520.org
