In my continuing quest for bacon beverages I would like to offer the Bacon Martini. This libation doesn't disappoint on the bacon taste, however I don't feel that it will be embraced by anyone but hardcore bacon lovers.
Along with one of my vets (Very Enthusiastic Testers), we tested two different martinis. Recipe and results follow:
The Recipe: Bacon Martini
- 1/3 oz Vermouth
- 3 oz Bacon infused Vodka
Put ice into a shaker and add the vermouth. Shake and pour vermouth into the martini glass, swirl and discard vermouth. Pour the bacon infused vodka into the shaker, shake until very cold. Pour into the martini glass, garnish with small piece of bacon.
Martini #1 - Regular bacon and Tito's Homemade Vodka
Me:
Smell- no mistaking bacon
Taste- salt, salt , bacon, salt, slight burn
Finish – clean
Tester:
Smell- light and innocent bacon
Taste- clean salt, makes mouth water, slight alcohol burn, bacon
Finish- clean
Martini #2 - Applewood Deep Smoke Bacon and Ketel One Vodka
Me:
Smell- light vodka smell, hint of smoke
Taste- clean salt, makes mouth water, slight alcohol burn, bacon
Finish- salty
Tester:
Smell- maple
Taste- spice, alcohol bitterness, prominent vodka taste
Finish- slight alcohol burn, no maple, SALT!!!!
If you are a bacon fan the Bacon Martini is worth trying, but I don't think it will find its way into your drink recipe rolodex.
Next Monday:
Check back as I make a Old Fashioned with bacon infused Maker's Mark.
Please send in any recipes or ideas you might have for a bacon drink.
Cheers!
