If your father is someone who enjoys cocktails but is very hard to shop for, absinthe is a great gift choice. It's versatile, fun, and controversial. Just ask my friends over at the Wormwood Society.
You may remember an interview I did with Ted Breaux, Master Distiller for Lucid Absinthe where he spoke of absinthe and it's revival. I also had a clip of him speaking about the history of this complex spirit.
The way to drink absinthe that is mostly known involves dripping ice cold water over a sugar cube resting on a special spoon into a glass on absinthe. However, it can be enjoyed many other ways. Try these for a new way to experience absinthe.
Witch Doctor
In a shot glass, start with the Lucid then add ice cold water that has been shaken with sugar or simple syrup, this will change the Lucid - now add the grenadine, it will sink to the bottom to form the lower "layer" - next float the dashes of bitters on top to form the top layer.
The Green Lantern
In a rocks glass, muddle about 3 lime wedges, add ice, Midori and Lucid and transfer to a shaker. Shake thoroughly and return to rocks glass. Now add the ginger ale and garnish with a lime spiral.
