I was recently asked the following and I thought it was great idea for a post.
Q. "What should be the first basic bottle of spirits I buy?" ~Mickey
A. I would have to go with vodka. It's a versatile spirit that can be used in many of the more popular drinks. An added plus is most people already have some thing in their kitchen that can be used as a mixer.
Screwdriver
- 2 oz Vodka
- 6 oz orange juice.
Serve over ice.
Vodka Tonic
- 2 oz Vodka
- 4 oz tonic
- Squeeze of lime.
Serve over ice.
Bloody Mary- 2 oz Vodka
- 6 oz tomato juice
- 4 pinches black pepper
- 2 pinches salt
- dash of Tabasco to taste
- dash of Worcestershire sauce to taste
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
Blend all ingredients in a shaker and serve over ice. Garnish with a piece of celery.
Classic Martini Shake with ice, strain, and serve strait up with an olive. Add a splash of olive juice for a dirty Martini.
A little history:Now made all over the world, Vodkas origins start in Eastern Europe. Initially it was made with potatoes or grains, but distillers today also use
soy or
grape.
