In keeping with our bacon Monday theme, this week I am featuring the Bacon Bloody Mary. This combination seemed a natural when I was thinking about what I could make with my bacon infused vodka. I took this one to a very enthusiastic group of testers and I am happy to report that it was indeed a hit.
You may remember that last week I used Applewood Deep Smoked Bacon and Ketel One vodka for my chocolate bacon shot: The Grandi-Oso Royale. I am happy to report that several readers have let me know that they are currently making their own bacon vodka so they can try their own bacon vodka cocktails. I will keep in contact with them for their thoughts on the process and the drinks.
This week I used a non-smoked, plain bacon. I was going for more of a pure bacon salty taste and that is what I got. I also changed my vodka to Tito's Handmade Vodka. If you have never tried this, it is one you want to look for. Distilled six times this award winning spirit offers a wonderful flavor that rivals the best of them.
Here is the recipe we used. The bacon flavor while subtle, is noticeable.
Bacon Bloody Mary
- 2 oz Homemade Bacon Vodka
- 8 oz tomato or V8 Juice
- 1 tsp Horseradish
- 1 tsp fresh Lime Juice or Lemon Juice
- 4 dashes Tabasco Sauce
- 4 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 pinch Pepper
- 1 pinch Celery Salt
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice cubes, and shake well. Strain the mixture over the ice cubes in the highball glass. Squeeze a lime slice over the drink and garnish with a bacon slice.
Be sure and check back next week for the Bacon Martini. If you have any suggestions or have a recipe you would like me to try, leave a comment or email me at drinkexaminer@gmail.com
Cheers!
