Idea inspired by a friend's mom charm necklace

Remember when you were a kid and all those rainy day activities your mom employed to keep you under control. Well, this project promises to harken back to those glory days using shrink plastic (AKA Shrinky Dinks). You can purchase regular Shrinky Dinks, printable Shrinky Dinks or you can use #6 plastic from to-go containers (I happen to know that Moe's uses this type of container)

I used clip-art from Martha Stewart's website, which is a goldmine for trendy clip-art. If you find a design somewhere else just be sure to size it correctly first (you can use photo-editing software). You can either print it out on paper and trace with permanent markers or use the printable Shrinky Dinks and print right onto the plastic. Once you have your design on the plastic, cut it out in the shape you prefer. Using a regular hole punch put a hole where you want a jewelry ring to hang. It is very important to do this before baking. It takes a drill afterward.

Next, preheat your oven to 350 deg and place your plastic on cookie sheets lined with tin foil. Keep an eye on your plastic while it is in the oven (This is half the fun). Your plastic will curl up after about a min and then slowly flatten out. Once your plastic has flatten out it is ready to be removed from the oven. Let it cool for a few mintues before removing your piece from the tray. Now lightly spray with clear spray paint to protect the colors.

Your charm is now ready to be worn or used. I plan on making mine into a necklace.  These make great gifts and kid projects.
