The Minnesota Wild unveiled a new third jersey Sunday at the Minnesota State Fair.
The jersey goes back to the early days of the Wild when it was green. The jersey has a classic feel with the name Minnesota written in cursive from the right hip to the left shoulder.
The Wild's play-by-play announcer Dan Terhaar and his broadcast partner Mike Greenlay spoke at the event.
The Wild had a very good turnout with a crowd that stretched from building to building.
"This is the great state of hockey get together," Terhaar said. "This is a big day in a summer full of big days."
During the introduction of the event, Greenlay bantered with the crowd about the Wild's current home red jersey. Greenlay likes the jersey and some in the crowd did not.
The Wild introduced the team's president of brand marketing, John Maher, to talk about the jersey before it was unveiled.
"I predict (the fans) will be happy," Maher said to the crowd at the state fair.
The Wild have been working on the design of the jersey for two years. This design, along with some others, was shown at events like the road tour.
"This design was an overwhelming choice for the third jersey," Maher said. "It is a throwback look."
After left wing Derek Boogaard and mascot Nordy made their way from the Fan Central tent to the stage on Underwood Street, Greenlay asked Boogaard if he was going to add some red from the opponent.
"We'll see," Boogaard responded.
The Wild will wear the third jersey 15 times this season, including the final home game of the season. The first time it will be worn is the Oct. 21 home game against the Colorado Avalanche.
The Wild will open training camp on Sept. 12, with some new faces and some old.
