The wait continues for the Minnesota Wild's pursuit of free agent center Saku Koivu.

It has only been two days since free agency began and there is way too much impatience with the situation. Saku will turn 35-years-old in November, so this could be his last contract. He wants to make sure he makes the best decision for himself and his family. Reports are he is looking for a four year deal, which certainly will be his last contract. His cap hit and salary last season was $4.75 million for the Montreal Canadiens. It is unknown what type of salary he is looking for, but the number of years could be the most important aspect of the contract.

Saku is eight years older than younger brother and Wild captain, Mikko, and have yet to be teammates.  So the thought of the two of them playing together could be more appealing to the whole Koivu family. Saku and Mikko's parents are probably the biggest supporters of Saku's move to the Twin Cities. It sure would make it a lot easier to watch both sons play hockey.

Saku was selected in the first round of the 1993 draft at No. 21 overall by the Montreal Canadiens. He tied for the team lead in points with three during the Canadiens first round playoff loss to the Boston Bruins last season.

The 5-foot-10-inch, 182 pound Finland native played 65 games last season amassing 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points and a plus four rating. He was voted to the all-star game twice, 1998 and 2003, but did not play in 2003 due to injury. He was the recipient of the Bill Masterson Trophy in 2002 as the player who exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. In 2007, he won the King Clancy Trophy as the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to the community.

If Saku chooses to sign elsewhere, the New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks are believed to be the most likely other destinations, the Wild have enough forwards that it is not essential that a deal get done, but would certainly like to have him in the lineup. Saku is easily the best player still available and there is a significant drop off after him.

Saku take your time, talk about it with your family, and remember to always listen to your parents.
