The Windy City Thunderbolts and the rest of the teams in the independent Frontier League have released their 2010 schedules. The biggest news for the back-to-back league champs in 2010 is that they are changing their divisions. The Thunderbolts will now be in the Eastern Division where they will join the Kalamazoo Kings, the Oakland County Cruisers, the Traverse City Beach Bums and the Washington Wild Things.
The first game of the season will be on Thursday May 20th against the 2009 division champs, the Kalamazoo Kings. Their opening night will also be their home opening night.
One of the new expansion teams, the Normal CornBelters, will also be making their first visit to Standard Bank Stadium to face off against the ‘Bolts in 2010. That game will take place June 8, 9 and 10. The Oakland County Cruisers were formally the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti, and they will be in Crestwood on June 17th. The Thunderbolts will try to get some revenge against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in 2009, the River City Rascals, on June 29th.
The schedule appears to end on a very challenging note for the Thunderbolts, who actually struggled to get into the post-season in 2009. They play 15 of their final 21 games for 2010 on the road. One of those games will be to help the Normal CornBelters open their new stadium.
The Thunderbolts have also announced that fans can expect some new menu items when they visit the ballpark in 2010. They will be able to purchase hot dogs, soda and other snacks for $1.00. The Thunderbolts are also planning to have $1.00 domestic beer nights on Thursdays and Fridays. Also, there will now be fireworks for every Saturday night game in 2010.
