Who is ready for some good old fashion dysentery fun?
That's right, mobile game maker Gameloft will be releasing Oregon Trail on the iTunes App Store this coming February 28th or March 1st. Gameloft has yet to provide an official pricetag for this product. There are a handful of images available at Kotaku that should sate your appetite and make you remember a simpler time as a child playing around in the school library while attempting to avoid doing your school work.
The new Oregon Trail remake features cartoony graphics which should take away the sting when you lose your wagon wheel, you run out of food, or your wife, children, brother and mother all die of cholera. The new version also includes eight skill-based minigames, as well as the standard randomized events from failing to ford a river, having your child die of dysentery, or re-enacting the Donner Party.
If you somehow have never heard of Oregon Trail, it is very likely you never attended a public school in the late 80s or the 90s. The "edutainment" software had you name a group of travelers heading from Independence, Missouri to Willamette Valley in Oregon. While traveling, and having the very forces of nature impede your path, you learn a little history and geography, and inevitably watch as everyone near and dear to you is struck down by pestilence and plague.
