I heard that Lance Armstrong just might be in the Texas Panhandle this weekend (Sat, Nov 14) for the Palo Duro Canyon Marathon bike race. Armstrong’s facebook post did mention the event, and said that he was thinking about making it. Cool.
The Amarillo area seems to have already anticipated Armstrong’s arrival by painting the famous Cadillacs of Cadillac Ranch, Armstrong yellow with the letters of LIVESTRONG spelled out in black letters along the cars. One of Armstrong’s twitter posts even shows his recognition of the LIVESTRONG homage at Cadillac Ranch.
Hopefully the Armstrong buzz will bring in participants because the event is a fundraiser for the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Participants can register for the race at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM on race day, Saturday, November 14. But, with all the Armstrong buzz around the race may fill up by then. Try preregistering by November 12, 11:00 PM Eastern Time. Registration fees fun from $40 to $55 and races are divided into men’s and women’s competitions.
If you’re thinking about getting away for the canyon biking competition, you’d better be in good shape. The full marathon is 46.5 miles, the half marathon measures 31 miles and then the one lap race equals 15.5 miles.
Turns out, the painted LIVESTRONG Cadillacs may attract more than Lance Armstrong himself. Prints of Cadillac Ranch, gone Armstrong yellow, are for sale at info@24hoursinthecanyon.org and will directly benefit the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Head out to Palo Duro Canyon this weekend for the beauty, a wild canyon race, a possible peek at Lance Armstrong, but mainly to support the Harrington Cancer Center and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
