Eden Mill Road View

Explore the wonders and pristine beauty of the great outdoors at Eden Mill in Pylesville, MD. This nature center, historic gristmill museum and park is serving up plenty of unique opportunities this summer.

Built by the Stansbury family in the 1800s, Eden Mill was named for a local priest, Father Eden, who served the community at the time. Early operations included serving as a sawmill/gristmill and functioning as a power plant for Fawn Grove and New Park, PA. Eden Mill has changed hands several times throughout its versatile history and at one time it even burned down and had to be rebuilt. Working operations ended in 1964 and the Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation took over the 57 acres of the Eden Mill premises. In 1991 Eden Mill Nature Center, Inc. formed. This organization established a nature center on the grounds in hopes of providing visitors with insight, education, awareness and appreciation for the natural resources and historic significance at Eden Mill.

Today, Eden Mill consists of five miles of hiking trails, a pavilion and pedestrian bridge, canoes for rental and a multitude of programs and activities. The old mill is open to the public for tours on most Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. between April and October. Many family friendly events are scheduled throughout the year including Family Camp Fires (upcoming dates are July 1, 15 and 29), weekend canoe outings and Twilight Canoe Trips. Twilight Canoe Trips occur every Tuesday and Thursday between May and September. Duration for these outings is from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Expect to arrive 15 minutes early. Reservations are required for canoe outings.

Eden Mill Nature Center and Park hosts many kid-friendly activities including various Summer Nature Day Camps. During each camp session, various interactive programs are sure to capture your child’s eager mind and motivate young enthusiasts of all ages and interests. Other upcoming kid-friendly activities include: Trail Maintenance, on June 27 and July 26; Critter Chow Down, on Wednesdays; Nature Nights, on July 11; Nature Storytime, on July 9; Tiny Wonders “Bugs, Bugs, Bugs,” on July 21; Beehive Maintenance, on July 21; various Babes in the Woods programs, and much more!

Eden Mill Nature Center and Park also offers an array of appealing activities for older folks. If you’re a nature enthusiast, serious historian, hiker/climber, in to rowing or just enjoy the great outdoors then you are sure to love Eden Mill and all that it offers. Trail Challenge, for adults, gives new meaning to the concept of “intense” as you hike along some of Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania’s challenging trails with a guide. This program is held once a month and is free. The American Canoe Association also offers an onsite series of canoe training courses taught by ACA certified canoe instructors. Various adult nature programs, public environment programs, bird banding, owl prowls and plant walks are all great activities to pursue.

Eden Mill Park borders on Deer Creek river and is surrounded by rich, robust surrounding lands and undisturbed, undeveloped woods. Over the last six years, this serene region has attracted 40,000 visitors. Come and add to the party that frequents Eden Mill this summer for an exciting day trip.

Eden Mill is located at 1617 Eden Mill Road, Pylesville, MD 21132. Office hours are from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information call 410-836-3050 or e-mail millinfo@edenmill.org.
