Fun fall farm events at Sunrise Farm will brighten autumn’s chill

Sunrise Farms is a cheery spot

Rise and shine this weekend and get on over to Sunrise Farm, in Anne Arundel County, for an array of autumn activities and fun fall farm events. Formerly known as the United States Naval Academy Dairy Farm, this fully operating organic farm brings plenty of joy to children and their families each year on autumn weekends.

The fall activities will be in full swing, through Sunday, Nov. 1, with a possible extension lasting until Nov. 8. Popular activities include: corn mazes, mini corn mazes, hay jumps, a magic totem game and many more activities for all ages, included with the cost of admission. There are even picnic areas onsite, so you don’t have to cut your visit short to grab something to eat. For an additional price, children may pursue excavating activities that require looking for fossils and minerals, take a hayride or ride on the cow train. The possibilities and good times never stop at Sunrise Farm!

Sunrise Farm operates under the authority of Anne Arundel County Dept. of Recreation and Parks and is also family owned and operated. Managing partners to the farm are Edwin and Marion Fry, of Chestertown, who won the 2006 Northeast Regional Patrick Madden Award for Sustainable Agriculture. Ed also serves president of Fair Farms, Inc.

This farm is the largest parcel of certified organic land in the entire state, covering 857 acres. Aside from fully operating and engaging in the production of goods and services distributed to individuals and businesses, Sunrise Farms has a long history dating back to the days when it was the United States Naval Academy Dairy Farm. The farm used to produce milk to the Naval Academy between 1917 and 1998 and earned a trusty reputation for safety, cleanliness and quality throughout the community. The farm maintains a 1930s village setting and offers rentals for special events. The Anne Arundel County 4-H Club and other meetings are held on the grounds frequently.

Sunrise Farm is always happy to assist you in the purchase of goods such as produce, crops, hay, grain compost and other goods. School and group tours are also welcome. School and group events at the farm and are provided by Oksana. There is plenty to learn about and explore at Sunrise Farm.
