Lito's Empanadas in Lincoln Park opened its doors less than a year ago and has been doling out hot Colombian pastries since. The staples here are of the savory sort; beef, chicken, ham, spinach and cheese, but the shop ventures to the sweeter side with its choco banana empanada. Currently, it's the only dessert you'll find at Lito's and thankfully it's done right.
The flakey fried pastry consists of a light outer shell that, surprisingly, doesn't leave your fingers dripping with grease. And the filling is just what it sounds like; warm chunks of banana all messed up with a rich chocolate sauce. Lito's must be catching on to the joy of sugar-fueled empanadas, because the restaurant is tacking on another sweet treat, with apples and cinnamon, this month. Lito's dessert empanadas are $2.29 each.
