Hell has frozen over, pigs are flying and I'm moving to Wrigleyville. It's the last Chicago 'hood I ever thought I'd live in, given its abundance of frat boys and impossible street parking. But an unbeatable deal on a one-bedroom apartment with in-unit laundry and a garage spot just happened to fall into my lap. And as Billy Bragg once said, you have to learn to take the crunchy with the smooth.
Heeding the political pop star's wise words, I started making a mental list of Wrigleyville's redeeming, smooth qualities. First thing that came to mind was Sensational Bites. As I've mentioned, this sweet spot is one of my Chicago favorites, and in just a matter of days I'll be living right around the corner from it. Anticipation took over and even though my move is less than a week away, I needed a Sensational fix.
As much as I wanted to grab another Boston cream cupcake, I opted for a chocolate mint version instead. This thing was just as big as the Boston, served cold and filled with an ultra-thick minty frosting. It quickly, albeit momentarily, killed my Wrigleyville blues. And as a nod to Bragg, I grabbed a miniature peanut-butter brownie bite on my way out.
